I just got a wonderful mic for Christmas (Rode nt1000) and am now dealing with the fact that my computer is the loudest sound in an otherwise quiet home studio.
Any tips for the most effective way to shut that sucker up? What's the cheapest way? Is the cheapest way also the most effective way?

you probably don't want to enclose it too much because you want air circulation for it to keep it from overheating....
they do sell ultra-quiet fans but ive not spent the money on any to reccomend them, and i would guess they do the same for power supplies - let me know if you figure out anything tho because i have had the same problem....

Fri, January 28, 2005 - 1:26 PMCoolermaster makes a line of ultra quiet fans- somewhere around 26db IIRC. They're pretty cheap- like $12-16. Just pop open your case and replace the fans that are in there- it's a plug and play operation and makes a huge difference.
Good luck! -

Re: silencing my computer
Tue, August 15, 2006 - 6:36 AMHi, I have a power supply and a CPU cooler made by Zalman. They are so quiet. Try them, or better buy a fanless solution by Zalman, for example TNN 500AF. Their site is at zalman.co.kr/
As for mics, Rode NT2a is on my wishlist.
