studio setups?

hmm thought Id get the ball rollin.. what kind of studio shiznit you guys using ??

Im on a PC
Cubase SX
Reason 2.5
Halion
Recycle
Oxygen 8 controller

Anyone using USB MIDI controllers? I'm having issues with delay in Cubase (i.e. when I playback VST instruments there's a lag.. when I record it sounds fine) I've been told it's the USB connection.. but it doesnt make sense that it will record in time but playback with a slight delay.. any second opinions ??

    also on pc
    Cubase SX
I have the same usb midi issues you speak of. I havnt found a fix either. I personally think its a glich in sx. Once I record a track i fust slide it in to place, its a bit obnoxious but it works. I had midi issues whith cubase 3.5 as well. Different issues but a bit more irritating.

What type of recording do you do? Mostly midi stuff (I see you have mostly midi type software) Are you in to audio as well?

ahhh yes I do some MIDI stuff but it is actually mostly audio. I'm trying to figure out loops and such for the beat but use lots of guitar and vocal. Everything else is mostly synthetic.. and I pegged the lag problem.. just as I suspected it's the USB connection. I hooked the Oxygen 8 up to my Echo Layla unit via actual MIDI cable and it works fine now.. (although I will never grasp how there was no lag during recording) but no matter. It works. I've got bigger problems on my platter now. Like how to speed up the tempo of loops in Halion without changing the pitch.

        Since you asked....
I'm using a G4 (dual-processor,mirror-door, still looks like a beer cooler). I'm running in OS9 at the moment.. DP3, Reason, Live, Kontakt as my sampler. I have a Trinity Plus (this includes the solo synth board) as my "motherboard". I have a Wavestation EX, a JP-8000, a MicrowaveXT (that I love), a JV-1080 (everyone should have one), a rack-mounted R-8 with 4 of the expansion cards and an old Emax 2 sampler, and a shortwave radio. I don't know when I'm going to make the switch to OSX - sooner rather than later, I hope.

I'm in the process of completely redoing my studio, moving up from a Tascam four-track. I just purchased my Mac Dual 2.0 GHz G5, which will be running Logic Pro. I can't wait to get it all set up and running. :)
