Can anyone suggest some good headphones for vocal recording. Right now the music bleeds so badly that no vocal recordings I've made so far are useable.

I do all of my recording in my basement, mostly because of the privacy, the space, the natural soundproofing, and the artistic inspiration that comes with watching cockroaches mate. Only problem is, the room is acoustically DEAD, and I don't understand why. Two-thirds of it is exposed brick, with the remaining third made of simulated woodgrain paneling. The floor is vinyl tile over concrete, and I've got a very flat, office-style carpet over half of it. Admittedly, the ceiling is pretty low (maybe 7 or 8 feet) and covered with those square office ceiling panels, like thick cardboard. And there's a three-seater couch. But this rooms is a SONIC BLACK HOLE. I play mostly acoustic instruments, especially a lot of ethnic wind and percussion, and this room just sucks the life and the tone out of otherwise deep, rich and beautiful-sounding instruments. I really thought that all that brick and wood (well, fake wood) and concrete would give the room at least a LITTLE reflective character, but, no ... this is where sound waves come to die. Moving everything upstairs to another room is an option, but an ugly one ... my wife puts up with a lot as it is. I was already pushing my luck with the Bulgarian bagpipes ...

Short of prohibitively expensive acoustic paneling, what kind of tricks have y'all discovered to alter the sonic "color" of your studios?

silencing my computer

I just got a wonderful mic for Christmas (Rode nt1000) and am now dealing with the fact that my computer is the loudest sound in an otherwise quiet home studio.

Any tips for the most effective way to shut that sucker up? What's the cheapest way? Is the cheapest way also the most effective way?

Digital Multitrack Recorders

Yes I am finnaly stepping into the Digital world,and I could use some advise. I was wondering if a $300 machine was worth buying,or should I wait and get something for $1000 or more? I am not a Professional Musician,but I do like my projects to come out clean. Any advise would be helpful...Thanks...The Reverend

Anyone know of software to record your settings?

I have a Fostex VF-160 Hard Disk Recorder. Does anyone know of any software that i can run on my PC and record all of the settings that i used in a session?

This would be helpful for future recording sessions.

studio setups?

hmm thought Id get the ball rollin.. what kind of studio shiznit you guys using ??

Recycle
Oxygen 8 controller

Anyone using USB MIDI controllers? I'm having issues with delay in Cubase (i.e. when I playback VST instruments there's a lag.. when I record it sounds fine) I've been told it's the USB connection.. but it doesnt make sense that it will record in time but playback with a slight delay.. any second opinions ??

Drums samples? Strings?

Hey there,

What do you guys use for passable drum samples? I am recording at home, making demos so I can find bandmates, but want something that sounds great, but my drum samples always sound like ass. My music is a mix between Jesus and Mary Chain, Sigur Ros, Low, Led Zeppelin and the Cure- organic drums, lots of atmosphere, some crazy loud guitars at times and a lot of electronics.... Fun stuff. Also, what do you use for strings? I have been using Fruity Loops, but that takes up too much resourceses for what I want to use it for- I'm looking for a passable sampling synth now with a smaller footprint,

Fostex MR-8 digital multi-track recorder...having problems

I just bought a new Fostex MR-8 digital multi-track recorder, and I am having problems getting recorded music to record or play back properly. Does anyone in here know how to use one of these things? I did manage to record one song, with the help of two musical friends who both record at home, also. I am trying to record Vocals, Keyboards, as well as Guitar and eventually other instruments such as acoustic drums.

How much should I charge?

Hi Recording tribe...

I'm currently about to land a gig for a friend editing her radio show (I'll be doing this in PEAK LE 3.0 by the way), essentially going through about 55 minutes of talk radio and chopping out the commercials, then converting to MP3 and uploading to her site.

I have no idea what this kind of work is worth. What do you guys think?
